Frazer Building, Cardiff, CF10 5LE
As technology adapts, more and more business are choosing to adopt working from home policies, allowing employees the option to manage their own time and workloads.
Whilst we encourage working from home here at Sutro, there are certain scenarios when working from home just ins’t a viable option…
As a service industry supplier, we have an array of kit which is subject to stringent ISO quality control and therefore needs maintaining and storing in a suitable environment.
That coupled with a heavy emphasis on technical operations and technician interface, we needed to find an environment which allowed for such facilities.
Frazer Building, 126 Bute Street, Cardiff
Previously steeped in Cardiff Dock history, we now occupy the ground floor of the Frazer Building on Bute Street. Once a former ships’ chandlers dating back to the early 19th century, these retailers were wholesale stores, selling everything from sails and anchors, to pots, pans and food designed to survive long sea voyages.
Although modernised in recent years, there are still some tell tale signs of its former use. One in particular is the sloped floor outside the office…
19th century modern day transport was horse and cart, and what with residing on the ground floor, our double doors were once the access/egress for such modes of transport. Horses eat (a lot) – horse toilets limited.
…A brush and water filled bucket was likely the apprenticeship tools of choice in those days!
Couple that with the specialist ships’ butchers that resided there, who specialised in the purchase of animals, their slaughter and – in the days before refrigeration – the pickling of the joints in brine, it quickly becomes clear why the slanty floor exists!
The refurbishment
Before… ‘The piano has to stay!’
During… ‘Anyone fancy pizza?!’
We haven’t found any brine pickled joints… YET!
